2015 Delamere Pinot Noir
2015 Vintage tested us and once again we prevailed. To begin, a warmer than average spring produced early bud burst. Thankfully flowering conditions were perfect. Then the fun began, January saw a dramatic drop in temperature only to rise again in February then rain in March. Our fruit hung on to receive three weeks of lovely cool but sunny weather in April. Another classic vintage for Delamere.
The Pinot Noir was hand harvested from over-30 year old vines on the Delamere property. In 2015 we included roughly 20% whole bunches in most of the Delamere Pinot parcels, with each undergoing fermentation with wild yeast in open top vessels. The wine was pressed of after two to three weeks and filled to Burgundian oak to mature. A rich and full mouth-feel results from gentle handling and spending time on lees.
Opening with an inviting savory and earth nose, following through on the palate to elegant dark cherries and field mushrooms characteristics, crisp acidity and smoky French oak influence, to create a complex and interesting wine that will age gracefully over the next 8-10 years.
Charred rump of Lamb, Hare Royale or Coq au vin braised with a few drops of the Pinot Noir would be the perfect accompaniment.
